James Gallagher is an Irish mixed martial artist currently signed to Bellator MMA, where he competes in the bantamweight division. He has previously competed in Cage Kings (CK), Chaos Fighting Championships (CFC or Chaos FC), and BAMMA.

Early life[edit]

Gallagher was born on 24 October 1996 in Strabane, Northern Ireland.[1]. He began practicing and competing in jiu jitsu at a young age and achieved white and blue belts[1]

Background[edit]

Gallagher is a teammate of fellow Irishman mixed martial artist Conor McGregor and is a member of Straight Blast Gym (SBG) Ireland where he is trained by head coach John Kavanagh.[3].

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Gallagher first fought professionally in the Irish MMA promotion Cage Kings, followed by fights in Chaos FC and BAMMA. He fought once in each promotion before signing with Bellator in 2016[4].

Bellator[edit]

Gallagher debuted in Bellator on 16 July 2016 at Bellator 158 where he defeated Mike Cutting via a unanimous decision victory[5][6]. He remained undefeated until he faced Ricky Bandejas at Bellator 204 to whom he suffered a first round KO loss[7]. This was also his first fight at bantamweight[citation needed].

Gallagher was most recently slated to fight Callum Ellenor at featherweight in may 2020[8]. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic the bout was cancelled[9] and later rescheduled for October of the same year[10]
