Paul Redmond (born October 20, 1986) is an Irish mixed martial artist who most recently competed in the lightweight division of Bellator. A professional competitor since 2010, he has also competed for the UFC, KSW, BAMMA, and Cage Warriors.

Mixed martial arts career[edit]

Early career[edit]

Born and raised in Dublin, Redmond began training in mixed martial arts in 2008 and began competing as an amateur in 2009.

After turning professional in 2010, he fought under various promotions, most notably Cage Warriors Fighting Championships, and compiled a record of 10-4 before signing with the UFC in early 2015.[3]

Ultimate Fighting Championship[edit]

Redmond made his promotional debut on January 24, 2015 at UFC on Fox 14, stepping in for injured Alan Omer against Mirsad Bektić.[4] He came into the bout over weight and as a result, had to forfeit a percentage of his fight purse.[5] He lost the one-sided fight via unanimous decision.[6]

Redmond next faced Robert Whiteford on July 18, 2015 at UFC Fight Night 72.[7] He lost the fight via knockout in the first round and was subsequently released from the promotion.

BAMMA[edit]

On 27 February 2016 at BAMMA 24: Kone Vs. Phillips it was announced that Redmond had signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion. He faced Chris Stringer in his debut on 10 September 2016 and won the fight via unanimous decision.

On 24 February 2017, Redmond faced former fellow UFC veteran Norman Parke in his debut at BAMMA 28. He lost the fight by majority decision.

Redmond faced Rob Sinclair at BAMMA 30 on 7 July 2017. He won the fight via submission in the second round.

Bellator[edit]

On July 28, 2018 it was announced that Redmond had signed an exclusive contract with Bellator.[8]

On 23 February 2019, Redmond faced Charlie Leary at Bellator 217. He won the fight via unanimous decision.

Redmond was expected to face Brandon Girtz at Bellator 227 on September 27, 2019, but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury and was replaced by Jon Tuck.[9]

Redmond was expected to face Ryan Scope at Bellator Dublin on February 22, 2020.[10] However, Scope was forced to withdraw from the bout due to an injury and was replaced by Georgi Karakhanyan.[11] Redmond lost the fight via second round submission.

In mid-March 2021, Redmond revealed that due to the lack of Bellator events in Europe, his expired contract was not renewed.[12]
