James Halliwell
James Halliwell is a British bass player based in Greater Manchester, England. He is best known for his work with the indie rock bands The Jade Assembly, Puppet Rebellion, and Cola Bay.[1][2]
Early life
James Halliwell was born in Wigan, United Kingdom.[citation needed] Details about his early life and musical influences are not widely documented, but he began playing bass guitar at a young age and became active in the North West England music scene during his teenage years.
Career
Halliwell first gained attention as the bassist for The Jade Assembly, a Bolton-based indie rock band known for their energetic live performances and anthemic sound.[3][2]
Following his time with The Jade Assembly, Halliwell became a founding member of the Manchester-based indie rock band Puppet Rebellion. He is listed as the group’s bass player in multiple interviews and features, including a 2016 Merryn article and a MusoMuso band introduction.[1][4]
He is credited on all Puppet Rebellion releases, including the single Slave, which also lists publishing credit to James Halliwell on Apple Music.[5] Reviews of the band’s releases, such as No Means Yes, have highlighted the bass-driven sound that underpins the group’s music.[6]
Halliwell has also been associated with the Manchester-based band Cola Bay, continuing his involvement in the UK’s independent music scene.[7]
Musical style
Halliwell’s playing is characterised by melodic bass lines and rhythmic precision, supporting the vocal-driven, guitar-led sound typical of the modern British indie rock genre. Reviews of his work with Puppet Rebellion and The Jade Assembly describe a focus on groove and energy within anthemic arrangements.[6][2]
