James Opie (born 1939) is an American writer and textile scholar, best known for his expertise on oriental rugs.[1][2][3]
Career
Opie’s fascination with the origins of ancient tribal rug designs inspired many years of dedicated research. At the same time, he also enjoys writing more informal pieces, often drawn from his travels and encounters with remarkable people. While rugs and other objects have held great significance for him, he considers the human connections even more meaningful. His work has been published in Hali Magazine, Oriental Rug Review, Parabola, Material for Thought, Gurdjieff International Review, The New Yorker, and Utne Reader.[4][5][6]
