James Nicholas Panos (born September 4, 1996) is becoming very well known for his ever fast growing stock portfolio on the popular app, Robinhood.
Panos was born and raised in Mount Prospect, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated from DePaul University's Driehaus College of Business. During his college days he started multiple small business ventures experimenting with various e-commerce storefronts and a small business at his local ice arena in Park Ridge, Illinois.
In 2019, Panos invested about $1,800 he received from bonds his grandparents gifted him yearly into the cryptocurrency market and in just over three months has generated over $40,000 in profits.[1] Around the time he hit the $20,000 mark, Panos began to diversify his portfolio with the profits right on time for the Tesla boom.[2][3]
James isn't just a student of the stock market. In late 2020, Panos revealed that he had obtained a PSA 10 rated Charizard 1st Edition Shadowless Holo 4/102 Pokémon card from the Base Set produced in 1999. The rare 1999 Pokémon Charizard card has made headlines with a historic $220,574 sale concluded by Iconic Auctions on Friday, October 9, 2020.[3]
As of February 1, 2021, the portfolio is believed to be worth between $230,000 and $500,000. If Dogecoin reaches its goal of a dollar this year, James's net worth could rise as high as $1,500,000 in 2021.[4]
Personal Life[edit]
James Nicholas Panos was born on September 4, 1996, at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. Panos grew up in the Mount Prospect, Illinois and dedicated his entire childhood to sports. He played the majority of his youth hockey for the Glenview Stars travel organization before going onto play high school hockey and juniors. He attended Prospect High School from 2011 to 2015. In 2015, Panos enrolled into William Rainey Harper College where he studied for two years before transferring to DePaul University.
On January 15, 2017, Panos launched Ventusracing.com which was an e-commerce website specialized in affordable race gear and German auto parts and accessories. Since late 2019, the website has been down for maintenance but December 2020, there was an announcement of returning to some capacity in late 2021. During that same year he also launched his small business, Jim Panos Hockey Training, out of Oakton Ice Arena where he coached for the Northern Express Hockey Club. There he cemented himself as a premier skill development coach we're he found himself working with over 180 players a week privately. In 2019, Panos returned to his childhood hockey club, Glenview Stars as a coach. Throughout all of this James went on to continue playing himself in both the NA3HL junior hockey league and NCHL D2 for the DePaul Blue Demons all the way through 2019.
Throughout his college experiences, at both William Rainey Harper and DePaul, James was very defiant of a lot of the processes and political viewpoints he claimed to be pushed regularly. Because of this he says he lost interest in taking elective classes and decided to concentrate primarily on data driven areas of study to get away from all the opinions that didn't benefit his education. Though James claims not to identify with a particular religion he claims his viewpoints fall under Christianity and this was one of the driving factors for him picking DePaul University, to learn more about religion from a Catholic Institution.
On June, 16, 2019, James announced his relationship with long time friend, former teammate in high school, and NCAA D1 Women's Hockey Player, Dakota Golde. Panos is so detail oriented that the date he asked Dakota represented her jersey number, 16.
Sometime in November 2020, James was diagnosed with some form of cancer though looks to still be very active on social media, does not mention it often. It is unknown where he stands health wise at this point.
Possible Political Aspirations[edit]
In August 2019, James started to troll social media platforms even hinting at running for the 9th congressional district of Illinois that covers parts of Cook County, as of the 2011 redistricting which followed the 2010 census. This being a D+18 district it is practically impossible for a Republican to win so no one knows if there is any truth to these claims of wanting to run for the office, but the mentions of a run continue all over social media. Many believe Panos could be an exception here. USAReformer polled 144 of his followers and found that 90.3% respondents believe that he will actually announce an attempt for 2022. Out of that same sampling, 70.8% of respondents believe he can win, 52.1% believe he will win in a landslide upset, if he pursues a campaign successfully. [5] The advantage Panos has is he's pretty center of the political spectrum and knows how to articulate his viewpoints and ideas. If this is more than trolling political figures online and he is serious about running according to Time Business, he needs to focus on educating his community on his beliefs and agendas that he would likely support and vote to pass through while in office. He has to prove to the people of his blue district that he has the answers to many of the problems, especially when it comes to helping lower income families and communities.[6] If he can successfully educate minority voters on what his plans are when it comes to voting for business tax cuts to relocate to lower income areas with access to public transportation and housing, a lot of people think could be the first real challenge to Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D).[6]
Panos, despite being outspoken online, is actually a pretty private individual and only his inner circle knows for sure if this is all talk or he really plans to run. What we do know is practically an entire playbook on how he plans to pressure lawmakers into fixing Cook County and Chicago. James shows deep interest in taxation. He desires to see saving banks separate from speculative investments in Illinois and a return to staid banking, which mainly comprises low-risk highly-regulated loans. He has real answers to real problems, and this trait separates him from others. He wants to pressure the Mayor and Governor to provide employment to Chicago’s southside neighborhoods and eventually reduce crime rates and cleaning education systems. In October 2019, he discussed spreading out the wealth to the less privileged, reducing the unemployment rate, rebuilding the black-dominated communities, and reshaping the education system, if he decides to run.[7]
James Panos believes it is essential to improve the competitive position of rural areas in Illinois by developing partnerships with the business and nonprofit sectors. He says it is crucial to incentivize companies to offer training to their staff to ensure a sufficient workforce. He also considers restructuring of social programs crucial to provide a safety net. Additionally, he aims to provide tax incentives to small businesses to provide job opportunities for lower-income communities. He also demands we offer more fair educational opportunities for CPS schools by separating public school funding and local Chicago property taxes.[7]
Panos has called for shutting off the state taps until real reforms in the city. The reforms he has highlighted are maximum concessions from the teachers’ union and a salary freeze introduction. He has also asked to replace the deteriorating pension system with new retirement plans such as 401(k)s. Further, James desires a change in state law to give CPS the right to announce bankruptcy. He believes schools should be funded at the state level and not via property taxes. And for this, the focus should be on results and standards to provide funding by considering statistics. Moreover, James would demand to allot more money for reducing class size and improve state-wide educational testing as it would present solutions to many educational problems with immediate effect. The last serious post he made said he would demand public schools should not advocate religion and instead give preference to private prayer. James also plans to give special treatment to disabled students to help them emerge strongly. All this could be seen on his social media. This has made many people realize that he may not be bluffing and is likely to run in 2022.[7]
