Jamshid Khoshdel (جمشید خوشدل; born 1968) is an Iranian filmmaker and animator. He has worked across documentary and animation since the early 2000s, including the documentary Nowruz (2002) and the mid-length documentary Street Sultans (2010), which won Best Mid-Length Documentary at the 2011 Iran Cinema Celebration; Khoshdel was the film's producer.[1][2] His career and works have been profiled in a published reference volume on Iranian animation.[3]
Early life and education
Khoshdel was born in 1968 in Tehran and holds a master's degree in animation from Tarbiat Modares University.[3]
Career
Khoshdel’s documentary and animation credits span directing, writing, cinematography, editing and producing. The Documentary & Experimental Film Center (DEFC) lists his works including Nowruz (2002), where he is credited as director, writer, cinematographer and editor; Ashura in Zavareh (2009), credited as editor, cinematographer and sound; and Better Than Life (2016), credited as producer.[4][5][6]
Nowruz (2002) screened internationally, including programs in São Paulo and Bogotá, and was covered by Iranian press.[7][8][9] His documentary Abyaneh was scheduled for a screening and discussion at the Art University of Isfahan in 2009.[10]
Street Sultans (2010) received significant coverage in Iranian media and was listed among the nominees for the 2011 Iran Cinema Celebration ... before winning the category.[11][12][13][2]
Khoshdel has been interviewed in Iranian media about his film Nowruz and cultural-heritage topics, including coverage by the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA).[14][15]
Coverage of Khoshdel’s approach to documentary and cultural-heritage subjects appears in interview features by the Iranian Students’ News Agency in 2004 and 2007, in which he discusses Nowruz and related projects.[14][15] He is listed as a permanent member of the Iranian Documentary Cinema Academy (Academy of Iran’s Independent Documentary Awards).[16]
