Janhvi Kapoor (born 7 March 1997) is an Indian film actress, who works in Hindi films. She is the daughter of Boney Kapoor and late actress Sridevi.[1] She debuted as the leading lady in the 2018 romantic film Dhadak, directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, opposite Ishaan Khatter. The film got her Zee Cine award for the best female debut, and emerged as a commercial success.[2]

Early life and education[edit]

She was educated at Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai. After schooling, she did acting course from Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, California.[1]

Career[edit]

Janhvi began her acting career in 2017, with the lead role in Dhadak opposite Ishaan Khatter. The film got her Zee Cine award for the best female debut, and emerged as a commercial success.[3][4] Rajeev Masand of CNN-News18 reviewing the film, praised her screen presence and wrote, "But Janhvi, who’s making her debut here, has a fragility that makes her instantly endearing, and a soulful quality that makes it hard to take your eyes off her on screen."[5]

As of July 2019, she has four upcoming projects, Roohi Afza a horror, comedy-drama film directed by Hardik Mehta and produced by Maddock Films, opposite Rajkummar Rao;[6] Kargil Girl a biographical film, directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Karan Johar, on the life of Gunjan Saxena, where she is playing the title role;[7][8] Karan Johar's multistarrer period film Takht starring Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, in which she is playing the role of a slave girl.[9] and sequel of Dostana, Dostana 2, to be directed by Collin D'Cunha and produced by Dharma Productions, opposite Kartik Aaryan.[10]
