From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jan Snedeker (c. 1608 – c. 1685) arrived in New Amsterdam, in the New Netherland colony, around 1639. In 1652 "Jan Snedecor" was one of the founders of Middelwout, or Midwout (Flatbush), along with Arent Van Hatten, Johannes_Megapolensis, "and others."[1] (The name Middelwout or Midwout derives from the Middle Dutch word meaning "middle woods," so called for the area of dense woodland midway between the towns of Breuckelen (Brooklyn) and Amersfoort (Flatlands.)[2][3][4] In 1654, "Jan Snedicor" was one of three men commissioned to build a church at Midwout.[5] In 1664 "Jan Snediker" was one of the magistrates at Utrecht, Long Island.[6] On 11 October 1667, after the English took control of New Netherland, Midwout was granted a patent by New York colonial governor Richard Nicolls, with "Jan Snediger" as one of the eight named patentees.[7]
