Jang Young-woo (Hangul: 장영우) is a South Korean television director and producer. He is best known for directing high-budget, critically acclaimed series such as the Netflix original horror-thriller Sweet Home (2020), the fantasy drama Bulgasal: Immortal Souls (2021), and the romantic drama Queen of Tears (2024).
Career
Jang began his career as an assistant director and producer, frequently collaborating with renowned director Lee Eung-bok. He gained significant recognition for his role in the production of the 2018 hit drama Mr. Sunshine.
In 2020, Jang co-directed the Netflix original series Sweet Home alongside Lee Eung-bok and Park So-hyun. The series became a global success, ranking in the top 10 in over 70 countries. In 2021,[1] he took the lead as the primary director for the tvN series Bulgasal: Immortal Souls, which was praised for its cinematic visual style.
In 2024, Jang co-directed the series Queen of Tears with Kim Hee-won. The series became one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean cable television history, surpassing a 24% nationwide viewership rating for its finale.[2]
