Janus Henderson[edit]

Janus Henderson is a  publicly owned global active asset manager headquartered in London, England, UK. Founded through the merger of Janus Capital Group and Henderson Group in 2017, the firm employs over 2,000 colleagues, including over 340 investment professionals, across 25 offices worldwide. It offers a range of financial products to individuals, intermediary advisors and institutional investors globally under the trade name Janus Henderson Investors.[6]

The group's holding company, Janus Henderson Group plc, is incorporated in Jersey, Channel Islands, and is dual-listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) under the ticker JHG. JHG is a component of the Russell 1000, the S&P 400 and the ASX 200 indices.[7][8][9]

History[edit]

Janus Henderson was formed from the all-stock merger of Janus Capital Group and Henderson Group which closed in May 2017.[10] At the time of the merger, the combined group had assets under management of US$331 billion.[10]

Henderson Global Investors was founded in 1934 to administer the estate of Alexander Henderson, first Lord Faringdon. The firm was first listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) in 1983. It was acquired by AMP Limited in 1998, and after demerging with AMP Limited in 2003, relisted on the LSE and began trading on the Australian stock exchange. [6]

Janus Capital Group was founded in 1969 as a fundamental, bottom-up equity investor. Janus Capital Group also acquired global quantitative asset manager Intech in 2003.[11]

In October 2016, Janus Capital Group and Henderson Group announced their merger[12] which closed in May 2017.[10]

In its Q4 2021 results, Janus Henderson announced it would be selling its subsidiary Intech[13]; the sale was completed in Q1 2022. [14]

Operations[edit]

The company manages a broad range of investment products for institutional and retail investors across four asset classes: Equities, Alternatives, Fixed Income and Multi-Asset.

As of 31 March 2022, Janus Henderson’s assets under management totalled US $361bn.[14]

In January 2022, Nelson Peltz and Edward Garden of Trian Partners joined the Board of Directors.[15] Trian owns 17.6% of Janus Henderson’s outstanding common stock.[16]
