Personal Life[edit]

Ng was born in 2000 in Singapore. He currently lives with his family in an apartment in Singapore.

Career[edit]

2007-2009: Television debut[edit]

At the age of six, Ng's made his television debut was in 2007 where he participated in the first season of Channel 8's long-running weekend primetime game show The Sheng Siong Show where he became the winner in the karaoke singing competition segment. He made his appearance again on December 8, 2018, this time performing "逆风飞翔", and hosts Dasmond Koh and Kym Ng commented Ng's performance by recalling his performance in the karaoke singing competition segment.[3]

In 2009, Ng has also cast as an actor in the acclaimed blockbuster drama, Together. Ng made his debut in the 31st episode where he portrayed as Huang Yixin, the son of He Jiao (played by Hong Huifang), which received praise from critics[4][5].

2011: Chinese Million Star[edit]

On July 2011, when Ng was 10, he participated in the CTV's Taiwanese singing competition Chinese Million Star (华人星光大道), previously known as One Million Star (超级星光大道). His audition songs for the Taipei leg, "我是一只小小鸟" and "Diamond", received acclaim from the judges. His preliminary round (aired on July 3), "我可以" and his reprise, "死了都要爱", received five stars from the panel of five judges consisting veteran musicians, which include David Tao, Kay Huang and Yuan Wei Jen.

On August 7, Ng was paired with Chiam Zhiwei and Huang Jie, and landed on the "danger zone" for the first time after losing the battle (he finished last with 13 points (out of the maximum 30), while Chiam and Huang got 14 and 19, respectively); however, judges chose to save Ng and advanced to the next round.

On September 4, as part of Team Battle, Ng was faced against a team member from another team, Sharon Kwan (who would later went on to win the series overall), in a themed battle (youth). His song of Justin Bieber's "Baby" won the battle this time 23 to 22. However, despite the combined total of 145 losing to the other team's 156 (which would have caused two members from the losing team to be eliminated), the judges opt to cancel out eliminations on that episode.

On September 11, Ng revealed that his grandfather died before the taping of the episode after a battle with cancer for two years, which inspired Ng to take part in the contest by moving to Taiwan. His song, "我期待", was among the highest scoring performances for that week, at 25. His appearance has since received well-positive acclaim and went viral on social media.

On October 9, Ng fell into the "danger zone" for the second time with his song "野百合也有春天", which scored 17 points, fall short on the episode's passing quota of 18. Two episodes later, his song of "童年" landed on the "danger zone" for the third time for the same reason.

On October 30, on the Top 11 episode, Ng scored his best personal performance with 27, on a team duet with Tha Jieying on his solo "我相信", and eventually made it to the Final Ten ("華星一班", or "華星幫") on November 6.

His last performance before his elimination was on November 20, during the Final nine challenger round, where he lost to the challenger Eugene Wen, and was eliminated by judges' choice, despite scoring a respectable 20 points and was not the lowest scorer of the night. Despite being eliminated, Ng later said he was proud on his parents and his performances and thanked his judges for participating the Chinese Million Star.[6]

2017-2018: Returning to music and SPOP Sing![edit]

Since around 2015-2016, Ng was revealed that he had started composed music ranging from pop to rock, and he had the interest in music to share to his family.

In 2017, Ng was enrolled in Singapore Polytechnic in Music & Audio Engineering diploma. On December 15 that year, he returned to television where he took part in the second season of Zhejiang Television's singing competition Sound Of My Dream. His preliminary song was Charlie Puth's "One Call Away". After his introduction, Ng chose the guest mentor Fish Leong; he sung Leong's "情歌" while Leong sung her advisory song, A-Mei's "剪爱". Despite received praise from the panel of judges, he ultimately failed to receive mentorship from Leong as he only received four out of six steps required to receive mentorship. Despite that, Ng's performance was broadcast on Mediacorp Channel U on March 10, 2019.[7]

On June 16, 2018, with prior experiences with making music, he then participated in SPOP Sing!, a new singing competition which involve singing renditions of mandopop songs exclusively sung or composed by local musicians of Singapore, which was first announced on April[8]. He auditioned in The Cathay with his song of Derrick Hoh's "假装不了". [9]

Ng was chosen as the final 20 on a live meet-and-greet session on July 21. He turned 18 prior to the taping of Quarter Finals, as revealed on the broadcast of the Prelude episode aired on August 9.[10][11]

The quarter-finals were held for four weeks with five of each top 20 finalists performing in each episode; Ng performed on the first quarter-finals aired September 24 (September 21 on Toggle-it-First), with his song of Mavis Hee's "明知道”. The judges commented Ng’s performance as "emotional" but "slid-up", and was chosen as one of two "judge's choice" (the other was Celine Wong) to advance directly to the semi-finals.[12]

Before the semi-finals, Ng revealed in an pre-show episode (The Final 10) that Ng undergone puberty about the time after participating Chinese Million Star and told that he couldn't sing high-pitched notes properly, lacking the confidence needed to sing in front of public.[13]

During the semi-finals aired October 28 (October 25 on Toggle-it-First), Ng was picked as one of the top three judge's choices in the quarter-finals (along with Marcus Tay and Daryl-Ann Jansen), and thus he was given a right to field his team of three to perform in the group song. He chose Shermaine Saw and Ally Teo to perform Roy Li's "让全世界起舞", and finished second with an average judge's score of 8.30. Joi Chua, the guest judge for that episode, acclaimed Ng's role during the group performance and was given "bonus" points for the round (the other members who were also awarded bonus points were Tay and Wong)[14]. His solo, JJ Lin's "不潮不用花钱", was well received by the judges and notably Billy Koh himself[15]. After combining the scores from both rounds, his final average score was 8.69, placing him second on the top three (Tay and Karena Yeo) and thus becoming one of the four finalists (the top three alongside Jansen) advancing to the grand finals.

During the live grand finals held at Padang on November 4, he performed a piano rendition of Jim Lim's "代替" (Lim was the music director), which was seen with judge's much impression, and scored 89.75[16], the second highest score for that round. The second round saw a duet with former singing competition finalists Kelly Poon and Desmond Ng; Ng was partnered with Desmond Ng with The Freshman's "代替", and finished first with 92[17]. The third song was a judge's assigned rendition, which Ng was assigned to Stephanie Sun's "我不难过", as the judges mentioned the reason is Ng was well-prepared with a degree of difficulty to execute his performance[18]. Ng eventually made it to the final two, along Tay, with the top score of 90.75. The final round he chose was Sandy Lam's "听说爱情回来过"[19]. The results of the final round was solely based on online votes cast from the public; Ng was later revealed receiving more votes than Tay, and thus won the competition. Upon his victory, Ng cited on his interview that he was satisfied with his performance and claimed that Tay was his biggest competitor and a good friend, and also a complicated relationship; he decided to return to his private life before taking on with his music career.[20]

2019-present: Post SPOP Sing![edit]

As a result of his victory of SPOP Sing!, Ng won a cash prize of S$30,000, as well as working with judge Lee Shih Shiong on his debut single song, "逆风飞翔", which originally sung by Hsiao Huang-chi[21]. Ng since appeared on many other variety shows after SPOP Sing!, such as the SPD Charity Show.[22].

On March 13, 2019, Star Awards unveiled a theme music, "星光", a theme music which to be featured in the Star Awards 2019, was performed by him and the finalists for SPOP Sing! [23]
