Life and career

Bingham was first elected to the Moorabool Shire Council in 2016, representing the East Moorabool ward.[1] He was re-elected to East Moorabool in 2020, and elected as an at-large councillor in 2024.[2][3] Throughout his time on council, he has also worked as a snake catcher.[4][6][7]
Bingham first stood for parliament in 2018, standing as an independent in the state district of Melton.[4] Bingham, one of six independents to stand in Melton, polled 6.8 per cent. He stood again at the 2022 state election, promising to increase the number of beds at the planned Melton Hospital from 300 to 1000. Labor Party candidate Steve McGhie was the incumbent in the seat, and Bingham stated he would preference Labor last on his how-to-vote card in advance of the election.[6] He received 6 per cent of the vote.[8] Bingham also twice stood for federal parliament, first in 2019 in the Division of Gorton, and next in 2022 in the Division of Hawke.[5][6]
After the 2022 state election, Bingham joined the Liberal Party. He required special approval for his membership application due to his previous independent candidacies.[9] Bingham stood for preselection for the third position on the Liberal senate ticket in 2023, but was unsuccessful, with Kyle Hoppitt selected.[9][10]
Bingham stood for the 2026 state election as the Liberal candidate for Melton, with McGhie electing to step down instead of seeking an additional term.[7] He was successful, being elected as the MP for Melton on his third attempt.
