Jasmin Akter is a Burmese cricket player and has been named by BBC as one of the 100 most inspiring women of 2019. She has spoken at the Houses of Parliament and is currently studying business.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Akter and her family were born in Myanmar but fled to Bangladesh as persecution against the Rohingya refugees rose. Her father died shortly before she was born, so Akter was raised by her single mother. In 2008, her family was resettled to the UK through the Gateway Resettlement Programme. Her mother faced a serious car accident in 2013 and Akter was left primary caretaker of the family. [2]
