He also wrote and directed two independent features, Affinity Point and Do You Truss Me?.

Biography[edit]

Pitre was born and raised in Bathurst, New Brunswick. In 2003, he moved to Montreal and began making music under the moniker The Scroll, "an electro-pop/experimental" project.[1][2][3][4] The single 'To Be a Sadist (You Have to Act Questionable)' appeared on the Montreal compilation Varia 2003.[5] That same year, Pitre was asked to do the official music for The 2003 Canada Winter Games.[6] In 2005, he released The Scroll's critically acclaimed double album 'Swan Soliloquy of a Deehrelict'. Exclaim! gave the album a high score and noted "The Scroll don’'t just touch on a variety of musical forms, they kick the shit out of them with songs ranging from wistful, to edgy, to utterly psychotic" .[7] The Scroll signed to Akachic Records soon after.[8]

In the late 2000s, while working as a successful director for an adult company, Pitre directed his first independent feature film, Affinity Point. It premiered at the Festival du nouveau cinéma 2010 edition in the Focus new Quebec works section.[9][10][11] Around this time, Pitre began using the moniker Deeh for his film soundtrack work.[12]

In 2009, Jason released The Scroll's second album '...and the man who sees his own wraith...' [4]

Between 2011 and 2013, Pitre directed his second feature film 'Do You Truss Me?' and released The Scroll's third album, 'Constant Public Humiliation'.[13] 'Do You Truss Me?' was completed in 2013 but has yet to be released.[14]

In 2015 and 2016, Pitre regularly appeared on Elisa Jordana's spreecast, Kermit and Friends. Pitre has long been a contributor to Kermit and Friends on a sporadic basis [...] His role was usually comedic, and he provided several music clips in the early shows".[15] Among his comedic and music performances he provided a cover of Elisa Jordana's song 'Fuck you, I’m Fine'.[16] Jason parted the show on bad terms and released a controversial six part online documentary called 'The People vs Jasouche Douchon' about the subject.[17]

In January 2016, Pitre released The Scroll's fourth album, 'It Will Never Come, Lover' to positive reviews.[1][2][18][19][20]

Apart from being a singer, musician, songwriter and filmmaker, he is also a well-known Montreal busker and performs in the city's famous old port during the summer months.[1] In late June 2016, while he was busking in front of the Notre-Dame Basilica, Jason's voice captured Seal's (who was in Montreal for a private engagement) attention. After listening for close to an hour, Seal invited Jason to do an impromptu duet of “Stand By Me” with him.[21] A video of their duet was published online and went viral overnight, attracting millions of views and making Jason a sudden internet sensation. [22][23] That week, Jason appeared on most TV news, newspaper and online news outlets from around the world.[24][25][26][27][28] It was confirmed that "Seal and Jason kept up a sporadic contact via Twitter messaging."[21]

On July 23, 2016, Pitre published his cover of Seal’s song, “Bring It On”. Seal Retweeted it and commented it positively on Twitter.[21][29]

On September 1 and 2, 2016, Seal had two live performance scheduled at the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls. Around the same time, Jason and his band The Scroll were playing a few shows in Toronto. Aware that Pitre was geographically near, Seal invited Jason to sing a few songs with him on the two dates.[21][30] Pitre soon published a video of their performances on September 7, 2016.[31]

In 2018, The Scroll opened for Seal at the Montreal Jazz Festival.[1] For the encore, Pitre performed David Bowie's 'Rebel Rebel' with Seal and Rennie Adams.[2]

During the 2020 pandemic, The Scroll released two album, Zizi Mortel and The Doppelganger is Unburdened. [3][4]

Pitre released his first novel, The Hedonist, in 2023. [5]
