Sellers in 2022

Jason Sellers (born December 11, 2002) is a Minneapolis-based YouTuber, social media personality, and former 2021 mayoral candidate.[1]

Personal Life[edit]

Sellers was born as the youngest of five boys in Minneapolis to Elizabeth Mulay and Samson Sellers. He attended Edison High School in Minneapolis.

In January 2022, Sellers began studying Political Science at Minneapolis College.

On January 10, 2023 Sellers’ beloved dog Amigo passed away. He was 12 years old.

On April 29, 2023 Sellers announced he would be attending the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in the following Fall semester.

Political Career[edit]

Sellers announced his campaign to run for mayor of Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2021 (despite the age of eligibility being 21) on March 1, 2020 via Instagram[2]. His announcement post read: "I will focus on public health, including physical, mental, and emotional. I will make sure our youth has affordable and numerous resources for exercise, and I will make sure every man, woman, and child gets the opportunity to talk to counselors, therapists, and doctors." On August 18, 2020 Sellers endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 general election, via an Instagram video[3].

On January 27, 2021 Sellers announced he was suspending his campaign, after discovering he couldn’t run being 18. Sellers then changed his campaign accounts on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to political opinion accounts- while retaining the @votesellers handle, stating he may want to run for office in the future -and has occasionally posted since. Sellers quietly published a campaign website[4] on Wix before changing wording to show that he was no longer running.

On January 26, 2021 Sellers announced he had applied for a member at-large position on the Minneapolis Public Health Advisory Committee. Sellers was selected for an interview but was not selected to fill the spot, but his application did spark discussion in the committee about creating a designated youth position.

On August 19, 2021 Sellers released the first episode of his political podcast. He streamed it live on Twitch, and then uploaded it to YouTube and various anchor.fm supported podcast sites. On October 22, 2021, Sellers hosted his first guest on the podcast, Minneapolis City Council candidate for Ward 1 Elliott Payne.

On May 3, 2022 Sellers uploaded the first episode of his occasional YouTube show, titled "Minneapolis in the Morning".

On December 14, 2022 Sellers announced he accepted an offer to be an intern at the office of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan.
