The Jason case refers to the killing of a cat named Jason that was filmed and streamed live by a YouTuber on December 30, 2018.[1] The YouTuber, known as Peluchin Entertainment, was later found guilty of animal cruelty.[2] The case generated great national and international repercussions.[3]
The Crime[edit]
On December 30, 2018, the youtuber tortured and beat the cat to death.[4] The viewers ended up revolting and started to denounce the aggressor.[4]
Prison and Fine[edit]
Matías Vera Oyarzún was taken into custody and later charged with animal cruelty.[5]
Reactions[edit]
The Jason case has generated great national and international attention.[6] Leo Otaco made an outrage video on YouTube to draw attention to Jason,[6] and the justification of the case led to the proposal of stricter laws against animal abuse.[7]
Consequences[edit]
The YouTuber was sentenced to a $1 million fine for the incident,[8] and YouTube removed his channel as a result.[9]
