Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

History[edit]

Since 1956, Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlor & Restaurant has been around at its current location and serving customers in the Hollywood, Florida area. Founded by Monroe Udell at the age of 28, Monroe had his mind set on starting his own business. With his experience working at his father's diner, Monroe was able to quickly learn how to survive in business despite hardship.[1] The name "Jaxson's" came to be because it sounded southern and at that time in the Hollywood area, Jewish descents, which Monroe was, were discriminated against. In the 1950s, Monroe dedicated himself to focus on producing food and ice cream. During the 60s, Jaxson's saw minor changes during the time of counterculture in the United States. At the age of 86, Udell passed away in his home on June 1, 2014. He was honored by Dania Beach and named a street for him, and by Hollywood, which designated January 4th to be Monroe Udell Day to honor his courageous racial policies and philanthropy.[2] The restaurant gained national attention over the years and brought Jaxson's Ice cream Parlor a lot of publicity from the Food Network, CNN and good morning America. Celebrities such as Robin Williams, Adam Sandler and Dwayne Johnson have even been attracted to the restaurant.[3]
