Jackson Kwadwo Bawuah (born 21 June 1999),[1][2][3] popularly known as Jay Bahd, is a Ghanaian rapper, hip-hop artist, drill artist and songwriter who majors in drill music, known in Ghana as Asakaa and well known by his single "Condemn"[4]
He is a member of the Kumasi-based Asakaa Boys group[5] that started what is locally known as Asakaa music or Drill Music, and the Kumerica movement.[6][7]
Early life
Jackson Kwadwo Bawuah was born and raised in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. He started rapping to entertain his friends and school mates when he was very young. Bawuah attended Ejisu Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.[8]
Career
Jay Bahd first gained widespread attention after appearing on Yaw Tog’s smash hit “Sore,” which also featured fellow Asakaa Boys members O’kenneth, City Boy, and Reggie. According to Jay Bahd, his music career was heavily influenced by the late American rapper, Pop Smoke’s hit song, "Dior",[9] which had spread across the world. He released his debut single, “Condemn,” on November 13, 2020, and it has since racked up more than 2.8 million views as of now on YouTube.
Through his good musical career reputation, an American rap star The Game stood on his social media to announce that he is on a big move with Jay Bahd and revealed a track he will feature Jay Bahd on dubbed "Make ‘Em Move".[10]
Controversy
On Monday, March 29, 2021, a nude video was leaked on Jay Bahd's Twitter Handle in which he was seen receiving a blowjob (BJ)[11][12] from an unidentified woman, with the caption: “Yegye Tire”, which translates in the Twi dialect as, ‘I’m receiving head’.
This controversy became an obstacle for him to lose a chance of being nominated in VGMA's New Artiste category in the year 2023.[13][14][15][16]
After some a month later Charterhouse, which is an event organizing group in Ghana, petitioned over Jay Bahd's Best New Artist VGMA24 nomination[17]
