Jayaraj V Thoppil (Born 21 May 1964) is an Indian author. His debut novel is titled Alcohol was released in September of 2012.[1] This contemporary fiction is getting extensive popularity among youngsters in the context of wide spread corruption hit scenario of the nation, where Y & Z- generations are optimistically looking forward a paradigm shift in the poor governance of the country.[2] One pint of Cheers is the American version which was published subsequently in September of 2015 by Tate Publishing, USA.

Early life and background[edit]

Jayaraj V. Thoppil is an Indian origin author. He was born in Desam located along the banks of river Periyar in Aluva, Cochin-Kerala to Shri TR.Velayudhan and Smt Bhavani. The village Desam and its integral life line river ‘Periyar’ better known for the birthplace of many creative writers in Malayalam literature in the past.[citation needed] He has moved from Desam to Gurgaon after his formal education. Currently he is working as a Deputy General Manager in a car manufacturing MNC in Gurgaon.

Happening of Alcohol & One Pint of Cheers[edit]

Alcohol is his debut novel. Alcohol is not a biographical work. However there are many incidents and coincident which are frequently connected throughout this great work resembling many contemporary issues of his politically volatile and diverse country.[citation needed] The plot revolves around the Protagonist’s problems and struggles, —of a lonely, long journey, his transition from a negative to a positive person and his account of ‘the unspoken truth.’ The novel focuses on the aspiration of the X and Y generation and the evolution of a new culture and changing habits. Alcohol is a detailed account of the struggles of a young man and his family, entrapped in the depressing trauma of alcoholism. It depicts this trauma and also touches on the plight of the youth of Devasam and Oregaon, many of who go through this struggle, devoid of dreams and a meaning in life. The only bright spot is hope. The thread of story ‘alcoholism’ connects two places through the turbulent life of siblings Kevin and Aldrin. Kevin’s unending sagas of miseries and strange life experience or events make this fiction different than any contemporary work deals human life diplomatically. Alcohol and its devastation reveal about losing moral values and cultural deterioration of modern life in the grip of ultimate greed of human beings. Author’s admonition about prevailing disparities between rich and poor, ultimate materialism, ill effects of capitalism and resultant of terrorism cannot be neglected or ignored by any peace lover across the globe. Alcohol is a revolutionary work in this literature drained modern computer world where creative art is almost side lined or vanished. As author described in his work, basic understanding about poetry for X and Y generation is nothing but a ridiculous Shayari written over back panels of trucks or trailers plying on the gutted and traffic jam hit roads of his country. Author strongly condemns the violent and corruption plagued politics, alcohol and drug based economy, exploitation and ill treatment of human resources throughout his work.

Author’s candid passion over literature[edit]

Poetry was his hidden hobby during childhood days. He had chosen formal studies like any of his contemporary friends in order to get a decent job for better survival. He did not have enough wisdom in those days to realize that his future destiny is writing.[citation needed] His passion over great works of Dostoevsky, Franz Kafka, Karl Marx, Khalil Gibran, Sylvia Plath and Marquez are well influenced throughout the thought process in order to shape up protagonist as a prophet of modern world who is still destined to wander himself in the narrow streets of his devastated birthplace or residential place like a stranger in disguise.
