Jaye Watts, also known by her stage name Letta J, is a Dominican American singer-songwriter from Dallas, TX.
Early life
She was born in the Dominican Republic and raised by a Dominican father and a Mexican mother in Dallas, TX. The daughter of two pastors, singing in church congregations of thousands of people under T.D. Jakes’ leadership was no challenge for the youngest member of the Grammy Award Winning The Potter's House Church, Dallas. She began performing, playing various instruments and preparing herself as a spokesperson at the age of 5.
Musical career
Her move to New York City ushered in numerous opportunities including her first record deal under the Motown Records Music Group umbrella, as well as working at major record labels like Sean Combs’ studio Daddy’s House Sony, Atlantic, Epic Records, & Warner Music as a songwriter. In 2009, she recorded her first EP called 'The JayeTrix' but it was never released. She has also composed alongside producers Scott Storch, Mike City, Rockwilder and recorded vocals for an Aaliyah tribute project with Timbaland. She released an independent film entitled 'Becoming: Chapter 1' in August 28, 2019 alongside the music soundtrack on her own label. She is credited as an author in "The Diary of A Songwriter" [1] for the unpublished book Queen Latifah and Devine Evans brought 100 songwriters to create.
A published songwriter with licensed material on the HBO documentary "Interracial Dating in America" and Nickelodeon in December 2008. Jaye Watts placed the title song entitled Hit It on Victorious featuring Ariana Grande.[2], Zoe 101 and iCarly. Jaye has also written for and had songs on hold for Ashanti, Kat Dahlia, Kellie Pickler, Kehlani, Christina Aguilera, K.Michelle and Jill Scott.
She was nominated in the 2017 Grammys for Best Urban Contemporary Record of the Year for co-writing the album "Written In Blood" by rapper Queen Latifah and Devine Evans.
Business career
Jaye has also established herself as a successful entrepreneur with a business empire spanning a variety of industries from wine, food & beverage, the video gaming industry and having her own record label.
Jaye is the Founder & CEO of Coexist Gaming [3], a lifestyle gaming company founded in 2019 based in New York City as well as Proud Wineaux, a wine education company founded in 2012. She sits on the board of the Loyalty Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides hardware devices for underserved and underrepresented youth communities. She collaborates with several gaming and tech companies on strategic marketing programs that will bridge the gaps between creative and technical development.
