Jayy Queezy (born Jaquez Hailey, July 7, 1996) is an American rapper from Chicago, Illinois, often referenced for his mixture of "rap and melodies" style and most recognized for his song "Gingerella".[1]

Early life[edit]

He is from Woodlawn, a neighborhood in the South Side, Chicago.[2] He cites his past experiences from partying, past relationships, hanging in the neighborhoods of Chicago; and what he's been around and into because of that growing up as the muse for his lyrics and the stories he tells while rapping.[3] The rappers that inspired him the most are Fetty Wap, Future, Eminem, Drake & Lil Wayne prior to rapping, he studied Graphic Design at Iowa State University.[4]

Musical career[edit]

He is one of the debut male rappers of Chicago’s new wave rap music scene,[5] He started off recording singles with members of his music collective Arrogant Fame Productions, at local engineer Dirty P. Thirty’s studio,[6] Since the beginning of his career his music was heavily influenced by the Trap music style popularized in Atlanta.[7] Dirty P. Thirty encouraged him to widen his variety of music to other genres as well because of his industry potential.[8] Overtime, his creations transitioned into more global sounds as he dropped Pop, EDM, R&B, and Alternative Rap influenced music.[9] In several interviews he spoke of the poor reputation Chicago has with the music scene because of the lack of individuality in the city's music scene which holds back many artists getting industry notoriety as well as the lack of industry presence in the city. Which in turn creates situations where artists in the city who does achieve success are reluctant helping others.[10] He has stated that his intention with his many genres of music is to portray his authentic experiences and emotions and he wants to influence people to be their self within all circumstances of life through his music.[11]

His project Revival Of Hip-Hop was released on November 30, 2016.[12] With this project he intended to transition his sound with this project while also paying homage to the start of his career bringing in songs from the beginning of his career as well as songs that were recently released at the time Revival Of Hip-Hop was released.[13]
