High School Career[edit]

Hutchison graduated from Park Vista Community High School in Lake Worth, Florida, where he was a standout Track & Field and Cross Country Varsity Athlete, also competing a season with the Cobra swim team.

In track & field he graduated holding the school record in the 400 meter and the 4x400 relay record. Some notable performances his senior year on the track include the 2010 FHSAA District Meet he helped lead the track team to victory over John I Leonard High School by over 100 points by competing and scoring in the open 400 (2nd place), 4x400 meter relay (1st place), 4x800 meter relay, and triple jump (6th place).[2]

  • During the annual Park Vista Invitational "...Hutchison added some spice to the 400-meter relay when he fell and somersaulted as he began the anchor leg after taking the baton from freshman Christopher Grinley."[3]
  • He finished off his senior year at the FHSAA 4A State Meet where he placed 3rd[4] in the 400 meter behind Hugh Graham Jr. and Arman Hall, and also running on the teams 4x400 and 4x800 relays at the meet.[1]
  • Hutchison only competed in cross country his senior year making the Varsity team and leading the team as the top runner throughout most of the season.

College career[edit]

  • Coming in as a freshman on the Hampton University track team, Je'von completed his first indoor track season setting a new school record in the indoor 400 meter dash.
  • As a sophomore he helped the Pirates to a team second title at the MEAC Indoor Championships placing 2nd in the 400, 5th in the 800 and running on the 4x400 relay. He won his first IC4A conference title that year as well in the 400 breaking his own school record.[2] That outdoor season he would qualify to the NCAA East-Preliminary in the 400, run on the teams 4x100 and hold the fastest split on the 4x400 relay that would make NCAA Nationals and finish 6th in their heat at that meet.[3]
  • His junior year Hutchison won the Indoor MEAC Championship in the 800 meter also scoring in the 400 and on the 4x400 relay. Also running a new school record again in the 400 at the indoor IC4A championship winning the event.[4] That outdoor season Hutchison would score in the 200, 400, and 4x400 to help the Pirates win their first conference title since 2003 winning along side the Lady Pirates track team for a Hampton sweep.[5]
  • Senior year[6] started with Hutchison leading the Cross Country team as their top runner.[7] At the Indoor MEAC Conference Championship Je'von won the 400 indoor title and led the team in scoring along with teammate Chidi Okezie to get the MEAC Championship Sweep again for the men and women. That indoor season would conclude with Hutchison further lowering his school record 400 time. That outdoor season Hutchison would run a personal best of 45.71 to qualify for the NCAA Championships individually and lead off the 4x400 meter relay[8] to qualify as well. He would go on to compete in his first USA Outdoor Championship that year in 2014 making the semi-final round.
