Jean Allan (née Mackie) (23 February 1908 – 9 April 1991) was a Scottish educationist, journalist and founder of St. Nicholas School, Aberdeen.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Jean Allan was born in North Ythsie of Tarves, Aberdeenshire, daughter to Mary Yull and Maitland Mackie.[1] She was educated at "Miss Oliver's" and the University of Aberdeen.[1] She married John R. Allan, Scottish broadcaster, journalist, author and farmer in 1934 with whom she had a son, Charlie.[1]

Career[edit]

Jean Allan began her career as a journalist in London before working in adult education in Northern England.[1] In 1948, she founded the co-educational progressive primary school, St. Nicholas School, Aberdeen with a focus on the arts and practical skills. [1]
