Jeff Burger is an American journalist and author.
Biography[edit]
Jeff Burger was born in Queens, New York, on July 10, 1949. [1]. His father, Chester Burger, who died in 2011, was the first television news reporter in the U.S. and was the national news manager at the CBS-TV network [2][3][4] before he launched Chester Burger & Co., Inc.[1], the nation's first communication management consulting firm, in 1964[2]. Chester Burger wrote such business books as Survival in the Executive Jungle. Jeff Burger's mother, Hannah, a speech pathologist[3], died in 2002.
Career[edit]
Burger received a B.A. degree in English from the State University of New York at Albany, summa cum laude, in 1971 [1]. He was managing editor and then editor of Phoenix magazine, a city magazine in Arizona, from 1980 to 1984[4]. He held various positions at Medical Economics magazine from 1987 to 2001, including senior editor, financial editor, director of special projects, and electronic-publishing editor [1]. He has been at Business Jet Traveler magazine, where he serves as editor, since 2004[5]. The magazine won a Folio: award for Best Full Issue of a Consumer Travel Magazine in 2020[6] and has been a finalist five times for Magazine of the Year in an annual competition conducted by the American Society of Business Publication Editors[7]. Burger won a Gold Wing Award for Journalism Excellence in 2011 from the National Business Aviation Association."[8] His freelance work has appeared in such publications as the Los Angeles Times [6], Family Circle [7], GQ [8], and Reader's Digest [9]. His interview subjects have included Steve Van Zandt[9], Donald Trump[10], and Sir Richard Branson[11]
Chicago Review Press has published four of Burger's books. Springsteen on Springsteen: Interviews, Speeches, and Encounters (2013) was reviewed by such publications as Publisher's Weekly and New York's Village Voice [12], which interviewed Burger about the book. Burger's second book, Leonard Cohen on Leonard Cohen: Interviews and Encounters (2014), was the subject of a feature in Parade magazine [13] and received notice in Vanity Fair [5] and Publisher's Weekly.[14] His third book, Lennon on Lennon: Conversations with John Lennon (2016)[15], was the subject of an episode of PBS-TV's One on One with Steve Adubato[16]. His fourth book, Dylan on Dylan: Interviews and Encounters (2018), was cited in the New Yorker[17] and named one of the six best books of 2018 [18] by Cass Sunstein in Bloomberg.
Personal Life[edit]
Burger has been married since 1994 to Madeleine Beresford[3], a puppeteer[19], writer[20], and retired preschool director[21]. They live in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and have two children.
