Jemma L King
Jemma L. King is an Anglo-Welsh poet from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.[1] She spent her childhood between Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth on the west coast of Wales.[1]
Career
In 2011 King won the Terry Hetherington Young Welsh Writer of the Year Award.[2]
Her debut collection, The Shape of a Forest (Parthian, 2013), was shortlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize in 2013,[1] the Wales Book of the Year (Roland Mathias Poetry Award) in 2014,[3] and the Sundress Publications Best of the Net Prize.[4]
King's second collection, The Undressed (Parthian, 2014), was inspired by a cache of antique nude photographs and seeks to restore the voices of the anonymous women portrayed.[5]
Her third collection, Moon Base One, is scheduled for publication by Parthian in October 2025.[6]
Festivals and readings
A Scritture Giovani fellow, King has performed at literary festivals across Europe, including the 2014 Festivaletteratura in Mantua, Italy.[7] She has twice appeared at Newfoundland's March Hare Festival, a visit supported by Arts Council Wales and the British Council.[8]
