Jeremiah Justin Simms (July 24, 2003 – May 5, 2025), known professionally as wifiskeleton (stylized in all lowercase), was an American rapper,[2] record producer, singer[3], songwriter,[4] guitarist, and former youtuber[5]. He was a member of the GothAngelz[6] collective and was involved in the underground music scene.

Early life and career

Simms was born on July 24, 2003, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.[7] Following in the late 2010s, Simms gained popularity through a YouTube commentary channel under the name "Cyrus".[8][9] The channel focused on commentary about internet culture and online disputes. During this time, he also appeared in videos with other creators in the commentary community.

Around this time, while still operating as Cyrus, Simms began writing music under the alias "fuxkcy."[10] The music released under this moniker however, did not achieve the same level of recognition as his later work.

In the early 2020s, Simms began performing under the aliases "*67" and "star67".[11] During this period, he experimented with underground sounds such as Hyperpop[12] and Sigilkore[13][12], which were both emerging sub-genres at the time. There, he gained increased attention on streaming platforms and social media.

In late 2024, Simms began gaining recognition under the names "wifiskeleton" and "skeleton archive"[11], with wifiskeleton being his primary alias. As wifiskeleton, he was a member of the underground collective GothAngelz[6]. Coverage of his work during this period describes his music as incorporating elements of Emo Rap[6], Lo-fi[12], Guitar music[11], and hip-hop, creating a "digital underground"[6] sound.

His lyrics often explored themes of heartbreak, depression, love, suicide, violence, and existential turmoil, inspired by his personal experiences.[14]

Breakthrough

In September 2024, a month before the release of his mixtape Suburban Daredevil, Simms released the track Nope Your Too Late I Already Died under the alias wifiskeleton via SoundCloud. Independent coverage reported in early 2025 that the song went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms, attracting attention beyond his underground audience. The track has been described as blending alternative rock, Emo Rap, and experimental production. It entered the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 91.[5]

"Nope Your Too Late I Already Died" (stylized as "Nope your too late i already died"; initially named "carve out my left eye idiot"[‡ 1]) is a song by American musicians Wifiskeleton and I Wanna Be a Jack-o-Lantern. It was released on September 27, 2024, via SoundCloud,[‡ 1] and later on October 22, 2024, on streaming platforms[16] through 9th St. and Hallwood.[15] It appears on Wifiskeleton’s 2024 mixtape, Suburban Daredevil.[16] It went viral on the video-sharing app TikTok[17] and became their first song to chart, debuting and peaking at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100.[18] Following the artist’s death in May 2025, Pitchfork mentioned in an article that the song saw a surge in global popularity and streaming activity.[19]

TikTok Virality

The song gained widespread attention in May 2025, starting on the first day of the month when TikToker Rex Lengyel uploaded a parody titled "Nope You're Too Late I'm Already Dad". In the clip, Lengyel performed the song in the voices of animated sitcom characters Bob Belcher, Peter Griffin, Homer Simpson, and Stan Smith. The video drew attention for the line, "If you see me out in Quahog, say hi," and the full parody was released shortly afterward.[17] Around the same time, Wifiskeleton passed away on May 5, 2025.[2][12]

Composition

"Nope Your Too Late I Already Died" was written by Jeremiah Simms,[16] known professionally as Wifiskeleton, and produced by I Wanna Be a Jack-o-Lantern.[‡ 1] The song is composed in E minor and has a tempo of 120 beats per minute.[20]

Death

On May 5, 2025, Simms was reported to have died in Miami, Florida. The report of his death was initially shared by fellow artist Witchbox in the GothAngelz Discord server,[3] stating that he was out cold when the cops and medics arrived. Initial reports circulated online before his death was confirmed by multiple reliable media outlets. While the date of his death was confirmed, details surrounding the circumstances were not publicly disclosed. In the hours leading up to his death, Simms appeared on an Instagram livestream in which he made statements indicating suicidal intent.[2]

On May 7, 2025, Hallwood Recordings and 9th St. Records confirmed Simms’ death in a statement reported by Billboard, describing him as “a rare soul whose art, energy and presence moved so many.”[5]

In the days following his death, Simms’ Apple Music and Spotify accounts were compromised, resulting in the unauthorized upload of a track titled “Cinco de Mayo was a nightmare lol.” The upload was later removed.[32]
