Jerry Sturgill represented the Democratic Party in the 2016 Idaho Senate election.[1] He lost to incumbent Mike Crapo.

Biography[edit]

Sturgill is an Idaho native, the oldest of six children raised in Twin Falls, Idaho.[1]

He is a managing director of a Denver-based financial advisory firm, Headwaters MB.[2] Before that, he was a Corporate Law Partner at Latham & Watkins and Stoel Rives. He has also served as the Chairman of the Matterhorn Group, and the CEO of Respond, Inc. He holds JD and Bachelors degrees from Brigham Young University.[3]

Political positions[edit]

Sturgill is an advocate for the Idaho agricultural economy and supports strengthening crop insurance programs, assisting local producers, and supporting land and resource conservation efforts.[4] He supports protecting public lands by keeping federal control.[5]

He supports phasing in increases to the minimum wage, eliminating wage inequality[6] and reducing student loan debt by lowering interest rates on student loans.[7]

He has said that he understands and supports the Second Amendment, but he said he would support efforts to "keep guns away from people who are terrorists or are insane."[8]
