Jerzy Lazarewicz
Prof. dr hab. Jerzy Wiesław Lazarewicz (pron. ye-zhi vies-wav wa-za-re-vich) (born 1940 in Płock, Poland) is a Polish neurochemist working at the Mossakowski Medical Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw.[1].
Education[edit]
Jerzy W. Lazarewicz received the M.D. from the Medical University of Warsaw (former Akademia Medyczna) in 1963[2]. Then he received a PhD in Experimental Pathology/Neurochemistry at the Mossakowski Medical Research Centre in Warsaw in 1970.
Career[edit]
He has been working at the Mossakowski Medical Research Centre of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw since 1966. In 1978 he obtained the habilitation degree at the Mossakowski Medical Research Centre[3]. From 1979 to 2010 prof. Lazarewicz was the Head of Department of Neurochemistry there. In 1988 he obtained the full professorship title. In years 1997 to 2008 he was a Visiting Professor at the Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, DC, USA.
Research[edit]
Prof. Lazarewicz has been leading three research grants and with his collaborators published about 140 refereed articles[4]. Most notably he has been studying the brain activity and cognitive abilities of rats in order to understand the neuropsychiatric disorders including autism[5]. In years 2015-2019 he was the principal investigator of the grant "Study of SNAP-25 protein expression, NMR metabolomic analysis and behavioral characteristics in animal models of infantile autism: reference to glutamate hypothesis", financed by Polish National Science Centre[6]
