Jesse Stauffer (born May 18, 1994) is an American entrepreneur and computer programmer who co-founded Xpire with tech billionaire Mark Cuban.[1] A self-taught programmer and white-hat hacker, Stauffer and his work have been featured in New York Times, Fox Business, TechCrunch, and more.[2]

Early life[edit]

Stauffer was born in Peoria, Illinois, United States. Stauffer is a nondenominational evangelical Christian and is a graduate of The University of North Texas.[3]

Career[edit]

Bitzy[edit]

Having taught himself computer programming and mobile development from books and YouTube videos, Stauffer started making apps for him and his friends to use. In October 2013, Jesse and his brother, Casey, launched a social networking app called Bitzy. The app let users share self-destructing text and photos, combining Snapchat's ephemerality with a familiar Instagram-like social network. The application's impermanent feed allowed digital interactions to mimic the real world.[3][4][5]

Xpire[edit]

After launching Bitzy, Stauffer sent a cold email to tech billionaire and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban. The tech mogul responded, which eventually led to a partnership between Stauffer and Cuban in a new app called Xpire. The app takes Stauffer's original idea of sharing self-destructing content but focuses on integrating with pre-existing services such as Facebook and Twitter. This allows users to shrink their digital footprint by deleting and managing their social media content. Xpire launched in June 2014 and has been featured in New York Times, Fox Business, TechCrunch, and more.[6][7][8][9]
