Jessica Fortin

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Jessica S. Fortin is a pharmacist, chemist, and veterinarian. She is a tenure-track assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University.[1][2] Fortin is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anatomic Pathologists and the American Board of Toxicology.[3] Previously, Fortin was a fixed-term assistant professor at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2018 until 2021.[4]

Education

Fortin earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the Université Laval in Québec City, Canada in 2004. She received her Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the same institution in 2006.[3] Fortin completed a Master of Science in Medicinal Chemistry with Honors in 2008. This degree was also earned from the Université Laval and under supervision of René C. Gaudreault[5] and Éric Petitclerc.[6] Fortin completed her Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences at the Université de Montréal in 2016, with her thesis being: "Characterization of the role of amylin (IAPP) in type 2 diabetes". Fortin had earned her DVM degree from the same institution just a year prior.[3] From 2015 until 2018, Fortin pursued a residency in Veterinary Anatomy Pathology with a special focus on neuropathology. The location of this residency was the University of Missouri.[3]

Research

Fortin's research involves interrogating and modifying the chemical structures of small molecules for their ability to inhibit the aggregation of amylin, alpha-synuclein, and hyperphosphorylated tau. This research involves drug discovery tactics such as target identification and validation, hit-to-lead, selection and optimization of hits, and proof of concept studies using rodent models.[7]
