Jessica Matten (born 1985)[1] is a Canadian Indigenous actress and producer.
Career
Jessica is the President of 7 Forward Entertainment, an Indigenous owned production company based out of the West Coast of Canada. She has multiple projects currently in development for film and television.
Jessica is the Co-Founder with Herd of 1 Media, creating an Indigenous Film Academy. The Counting Coup Indigenous Film Academy ("CCIFA") is a progressive, state-of-the-art, holistic educational environment for intense creative work, where emerging and aspiring First Nations, Metis and Inuit artists can effectively and successfully gain expertise and experience to establish the foundations of a professional film career.
Jessica also was the creator and founder of the first and only Indigenous Cree Wellness and Fitness magazine "Active Cree" distributed monthly to 60,000 people and 10 communities across the James Bay area throughout Northern Ontario. She is a guest speaker across North America, Asia and Europe promoting and spreading awareness on Indigenous issues.
Personal life
Jessica Matten was born 1985 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada[1][2][3] She is of Métis and Saulteaux-Cree descent, and is a descendant of Cuthbert Grant.[1][3][2] She graduated with a Science degree in Human Ecology from the University of Alberta.[2] Jessica Matten is of Indigenous, Native Red River Metis-Cree descent and is directly a descendant of Cuthbert Grant, the first rebel Metis leader famously known for the Battle of the Seven Oaks in Canada. Besides acting, Jessica runs an Indigenous wellness and fitness company 7 Forward Entertainment (formally in partnership with Lemon Cree) where they have helped thousands of Indigenous people across North America achieve their fitness, wellness and health goals. For over 20 years she has worked with the Indigenous Youth and is an activist to help spread awareness globally on the issue of murdered and missing Indigenous women in North America.
