Jimin Oh-Havenith (born 27 December 1960) is a Korean-German classical pianist.[1]
Life[edit]
Oh-Havenith was born in Seoul, South Korea and received her first piano lessons at the age of six. After attending Seoul Arts High School, she studied music at Seoul National University with Jin-Woo Chung. In 1980 she moved to Germany and studied with Aloys Kontarsky at the Musikhochschule Köln, graduating in 1984. Already during her studies she played concerts in South Korea and abroad. In addition to her concert activities as a soloist, she performed as a piano duo with her late husband, Raymund Havenith (died 1993), with whom she made numerous radio (WDR, DLF, NDR, SWF) and disc recordings.
Oh-Havenith taught at the Mainz School of Music, Mainz University and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. Since 2013 she is active as a soloist again. Her recent recordings of Schubert and Liszt piano sonatas, and Beethoven sonatas, respectively, for the German label Audite have been critically acclaimed.[2][3][4] Her playing is characterized by "exactidude", "incisive technique", and a rich "sound [...] based on a legato touch" by the International Piano Magazine.[5]
