Jimmy Mistry (born 12 June 1971), Chairman & Managing Director of Della Group[1], is an Indian entrepreneur, designer, hotelier, and a real estate developer.[2] Mistry founded Della Group[3] that operates in four business verticals including Della Resorts, Della Adventure Park, Della Adventure Training Academy (D.A.T.A),[4] and Della Villas with a current capacity of two thousand employees. Mistry ventured into the manufacturing and execution business in 1996.[5]
Early life
Mistry was born to Rusi Mistry and Lily Mistry in 1971 in the city of Ahmedabad, India, in a middle-class Parsi family.
Mistry pursued a diploma in mechanical engineering before dropping out in the final year. At the age of 19, he began his career in designing with contracting jobs and executing projects. However, he gained interest in interior design and architecture whilst collaborating with an Italian design firm as an import partner.[6]
Career
In 2005, Mistry ventured into the real-estate business as he went on to build the Della Towers, a Persian-inspired residential building in Mumbai.[7]
In 2008, Mistry ventured into real-estate luxury villas with the Della Enclave Pvt. Ltd. that laid the foundation for Della Adventure Resorts and Spa. He designed the setup of Della Adventure in 2009, followed by the Camp Della Resort, a 30-room resort in Lonavala that was developed by him in the year 2010.[8]
Mistry went on to set up a luxury resort in Lonavala in 2013 along with two other resorts - a luxury resort and an adventure resort. In 2017, he designed the concept of military tourism and counter-terrorism training academy for civilians, Della, D.A.T.A.[4]
Mistry has been on TEDx Talks at Delhi in 2012[9] and in BITS Goa in 2020.[10]
Projects
Della Resorts
The concept of experiential hospitality in India was introduced through Della Resorts[11], a holiday destination that is spread across 43 acres of land.[12]
Della Adventure Park
In 2009, Mistry introduced Della Adventure Park which holds the title of the largest extreme-adventure park in India with over 70 activities and 5-star luxury amenities.[12]
Della Adventure Training Academy (D.A.T.A)
Mistry's project, D.A.T.A, a venture into experiential hospitality is the first-ever military-themed luxury resort and counter-terrorism training academy for youth, corporates and families in India. With some personnel from the ex-Special Forces of the Indian Army on its side, D.A.T.A. aims at training individuals with survival techniques for any adverse situation.[4]
Della Villas
Mistry commissioned Della Villas as there is immense scope in luxury second-home gated communities in an otherwise extremely competitive real-estate segment. With this villa project, he created a total of 24 luxury villas with democratic designs in the form of a gated community.[12]
Personal life
Jimmy Mistry has been the trustee of the Bombay Parsi Panchayat in the year 2008.[13][14]
He is a biking enthusiast[15][16] and he currently resides at his Della Tower[17] residence at Parsi Colony in Dadar, Mumbai.
