João Miranda.[1] (born October 25, 1986, full name João Pedro Fonseca Miranda) is a Portuguese magician, creator and creative consultant, known worldwide for his magic creations. He worked closely with magicians like David Copperfield, developing original ideas and secret projects for his live shows and TV appearances. He has also worked with magicians like Derren Brown, Shin Lim, Mat Franco, Dan White, Luís de Matos, Hans Klok, Lu Chen and many others.

He is the founder and CEO of "João Miranda Magic".

Background[edit]

João Miranda was born in Porto, Portugal in 1986. When he was 5 years old, his father António Miranda showed him a magic trick, which sparked his lifelong interest. He learned magic from studying books, watching VHS tapes and attending local magic gatherings at Clube Fenianos Portuenses.

João's early idols and references were Luís de Matos, David Copperfield and Jeff McBride.

He earned a bachelor's degree in International Trade, from Instituto Superior de Contabilidade e Administração do Porto (ISCAP)

Career[edit]

Inspired by one of his idols Jeff McBride, he started practicing and performing the art of card manipulation, and by the age of 12 he did his first professional show for a local factory.

He developed a deep appreciation for other areas of illusionism, such as close-up magic and stage illusions. This also led him to build some of his own illusions, as most of them were too expensive for him to buy.

In his early 20's, João and his friend Artur Santos produced and hosted their first TV show, called Porto Mágico ('Magic Porto'), which ran on Porto Canal for 13 episodes. Aside from this, he regularly performed in weddings, birthday parties and private shows.

João built a reputation for creating original magic props and routines. By 2016 he founds his company João Miranda Magic (named after himself).
