Joal Thomas Stanfield (July 23, 1979 — August 27, 2014)[1][2][3][4] was an American educator and tennis player who was an tennis coach at Morton High School in Morton, Illinois.
Early life[edit]
Stanfield was born on July 23, 1979, in Peoria, Illinois to Gary and Gloria (Giordano) Stanfield.[2] Stanfield was educated at Morton High School where he became a tennis player.[1]
Stanfield married Kiyle Lopotko on December 28, 2002 and had three children.[2]
Career[edit]
Stanfield worked as a third grade teacher in East Peoria School District 86 from 2004 to 2011.[2] He started to work for Morton Community Unit School District 709 where he was the head boys tennis coach at Morton High School for ten years and an educator at Lincoln Elementary School.[2][3] Stanfield created the Attitude Character Effort tennis summer camps for the past fifteen years.[2] He was also the head tennis professional at the Country Club of Peoria for a couple of years.[2]
Death and legacy[edit]
Stanfield died at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria, Illinois after suffering a medical trauma five days earlier.[2][4] He was buried at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, Illinois.[2]
Joal Stanfield Memorial Complex[edit]
Joal Stanfield Memorial Tennis Complex was made in 2015 in honor of him.[5]
Night Under the Lights[edit]
The Night Under the Lights event was held at Joal Stanfield Memorial Tennis Complex on September 22, 2017 in honor of Joal.[6]
