Early Life[edit]

Jansen started doing music videos as early as 2011 appearing in Drake's Marvins room and started from the bottom, and appeared in the music video ‘Turn It Up’ by Kardinal Offishall featuring Karl Wolf as she continued to train as actress.

Bite of a Mango[edit]

In 2022 her first feature film "Bite of a Mango" she produced and co-wrote with Ron Dias was an Official selection at the American Black Film Festival. [6]. Bite of a Mango received a standing Ovation at its sold out show in Toronto and won the Audience choice award and Jayne Kamara the lead actress won Outstanding Actress in a feature film.[7][8].

Joanne Jansen and Ron Dias wrote the film during the height of the pandemic in two days, drawing inspiration with what was going in the world in 2020. It was filmed over five days during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The team of three took all necessary precautions to ensure a safe environment while the rest of the industry was shut down.[9] In order to keep the budget under ten thousand dollars, Dias and Jansen wore multiple hats including editing, colouring, sound composing, cinematography and set decorating.[10].

Over a number of TV appearances they confirmed that the film was written out of frustration as TV and Film in Canada weren't being represented accurately when it came to displaying Toronto. During the height of the pandemic, where no one had access to work, they decided to include the pandemic in the script as it would be relatable and easier to film as everywhere had restrictions and mostly people had to wear masks.
