Joe Curcillo, The MindShark, (Born 1960 in Philadelphia, PA) is an American Mentalist[1], Attorney[2] and Author[3]. He is known for his verbal and non-verbal communication skills and presentation abilities.[4] He has instructed entertainers, corporate leaders and lawyers in the art of presentation.[5] As a Mentalist Attorney, he has adopted the trademarked brand The MindShark.[6] As an Adjunct Professor at Widener University School of Law, Mr. Curcillo developed a hands-on course, based on the use of storytelling as a persuasive weapon. He has been a professional entertainer helping corporations and associations improve their communication techniques since 1979. He has entertained internationally.[7]

Mentalist & Keynote Speaker[edit]

Curcillo worked as a stage performer and presenter during his legal career. As an entertainer, he is the 2014 recipient of the Milbourne Christopher Foundation Award[8] and the 2015 Annemann Award.[9] He uses his communication skills to present feats of mindreading. He authored the out of print book Performance on Trial: The case for Better Performance[10][11] for the magic industry, and is the author of Getting to 'US': Discover the Ability to Lead Your Team to Any Result You Desire.[12] Curcillo urges people to "Take time to pay attention to your communication process, and then, listen to your listener before you speak. You will hear volumes that allow you to communicate much more successfully." He believes that is what mind-reading is all about.

Legal Background[edit]

Curcillo spent three decades of my life in all manner of law-related jobs. He prosecuted for twelve years handling , among other crimes, Child Abuse &  Medicaid fraud. He taught  law enforcement professionals and was adjunct faculty at Widener Law Shool. He also served as an Acting Chief Deputry Attorney General. In the latter years, After prosecution, be worked as a Defense Attorney and managed his firm, he utilized his verbal and non-verbal communication skills to read people. White collar criminals, prospective jury members. Curcillo believed that, " If I truly could read their minds, that would give him an advantage in court, and in life." That belief fuels his work today as an Mentalist & Keynote Speaker. Curcillo appeared in an episode of the TV Series The Forensic Files during his career.[13]

Some of his law related experience includes:

  • 2012 -present: Solicitor to Board of Commissioners, Dauphin County PA., Legal oversight and advisor to the Board.
  • 2000-2011: Juvenile Hearing Examiner, Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas. Presided over juvenile matters as a judicial officer involving delinquent youths as well as children in difficult situations needing intervention.
  • 1999- 1997: CEO,  Colonial Land Transfer, Real Estate Title Insurance agency.  Oversaw the fiscal and daily operations of the company.
  • 1985-1997: Prosecutor. I served in 3 Pennsylvania Counties as a Deputy Prosecutor, and then moved to the State Attorney General's office where I began in Child Abuse Prosecutions and eventually managed the Statewide Medicaid Fraud Unit.

Curcillo holds a Juris Doctor from Temple University School of Law (1885), and a Bachelors Degree from Temple University College of Engineering (1982).
