Joe Matthews (born April 8, 1993) is an American football wide receiver. He played college football at New Mexico State University.

Early life[edit]

Born the son of Mark and Lisa Matthews, Joe attended Rincon High School in Tucson, Arizona, where he was a member of the Ranger football team. Matthews played both offense and defense for the Rangers, earning first team All-Southern Arizona, first team all-region and honorable mention as a Senior.[1]

Recruiting[edit]

Matthews committed to New Mexico State University on July 1, 2010. It was the only Division-1 offer Matthews acquired.[2]

College career[edit]

Matthews played in 12 games at wide receiver during the 2013 season. He played in a total of 43 games for the Aggies. [3]

Professional career[edit]

Prior to the 2015 NFL Draft, Matthews was projected to be undrafted by NFLDraftScout.com. He was rated as the three hundred and thirty eight best player in the draft.[4]

Arizona Rattlers[edit]

In March 2016, Matthews signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Rattlers.[6] Matthews in his first professional football game with the Rattlers made a catch that was featured on Sports Center Top 10.[7] and the Cutters catch of the Week Award [8]
