Johannes Wald
Johannes Wald (* 1980 in Sinelfingen) is a german conceptual artist and sculptor.
Life
Wald studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe from 2002 to 2009 and was a master class student with Harald Klingelhöller from 2007 to 2009. Johannes Wald lives and works in Berlin.
Works
Johannes Wald's sculptural works do not follow a traditional idea of sculpture. Rather, his works embody the concept of sculpture, raise questions about "how" to see, contemplate and create a sculpture. How can abstract concepts such as feelings, artistic qualities and ambitions be materialized? Is form, such as mimesis or expression, even possible?[1]
Through the combination of classic sculptural materials such as bronze, marble, plaster or clay and the combination of tradition and modernity, Wald creates an unconditional pleasure in looking at his work, which in its motifs refers, among other things, to Greek antiquity or in general he investigates the border between traditional painting and sculpture.[2]
