John Axelrad
John Axelrad is an American film editor. He attended film school at University of Southern California and graduated in 1990.[1] His first editing job outside of university was for The Return of Eliot Ness, as a second assistant editor. he is best known for his movie editing work on The Lost City of Z, Papillon, Krampus and Ad Astra.
Axelrad went to film school thinking that he wanted to become a director. But he soon learned that he didn’t enjoy having to deal with real-world hassles of working on a film set. He found that his creativity flourished "in the dark confines of an editing room." He says that he lucked out by being tutored in film editing in the early 90's, with Hibah Schweitzer, ACE. And by doing so, Axelrad learned skills that would help him get his next job as second assistant film editor with Benjamin Chulay, ACE, and first assistant with Alex Seymour. He learned Avid Media Composer and with the combination of film and Avid skills, this helped propel his career as an assistant editor in television and feature films.[2]
