Lieutenant General John Edward Kelly (July 10, 1911 – March 2, 1995) was an officer in the United States Army born in Washington D.C. who served as commandant of the National War College[1] from 1968 to 1970. As a major general Kelly had been the assistant deputy chief of staff for personnel. He replaced Lieutenant General Andrew J. Goodpaster as commandant of the National War College in 1968 at the time of his promotion to the rank of lieutenant general.[2]

Lieutenant General Kelly was buried with full military honors in Section 4 of Arlington National Cemetery. His son U.S. Army Captain John Edward Kelly (1943-1969), a 1967 graduate of the United States Military Academy, is also buried at Arlington National Cemetery after dying in Vietnam.[3] Neither should he or hos son be confused with Lieutenant Colonel John Edward Kelly (1924-2020) from Louisiana and Virginia.[4]
