John Harrison (County Leitrim)

John Harrison Irish War of Independence victim, born 1868, died April 1921.

Harrison was a native of Drumreilly, County Leitrim, and a member of the Methodist faith [1]

The South Leitrim Brigade of the IRA regularly stopped the Cavan and Leitrim Railway and searched the Mail Car to intercept mail to the Royal Irish Constabulary and Dublin Castle .[2]

One such raid implicated a local Farmer, John Harrison.[3]

Death[edit]

Orders were then given to execute him, and in April 1921 he was executed by a local Company of the IRA.[4] [5] At his inquest it was also alleged that he had refused attend a local IRA court to hand over weapons which he owned and had been demanded by the local IRA.[6]
