Smith, John L.[edit]
Native Nevadan John L. Smith is a longtime journalist and the author of more than a dozen books. He freelances for a variety of publications, including The Nevada Independent. He often writes about Nevada history and politics, Las Vegas, and casino men. Smith also is the author of the Fields of Silver and Gold series, historical biographies for children featuring the men and women that shaped Nevada's history.
Smith was born in Henderson, Nevada in 1960, the youngest of Jan and Prince Smith’s six children. The family’s Nevada roots date back to 1881 and have greatly influenced his writing. He is married to the writer Sally Denton. They have a daughter, Amelia Smith, whose battle with cancer is the subject of his book Amelia's Long Journey. He makes his home in Boulder City, Nevada.[1]
