Umer Rashid is a kashmir based journalist and is currently associated with Srinagar based news wire Global News Service GNS[1] Umer Rashid is among the few journalists in south Kashmir who cover the violence incidents, be it encounters, law and order situations, protests etc. He is one of those many who has been harbouring dreams of a vibrant journalism in Kashmir. Umer was born in February 21 1995 In Dobipora Village of Shopian district Jammu and Kashmir

Education and personal Life[edit]

Umer attended various schools in Shopian. He passed his Secondary examinations from Govt high School in Shopian and passed his Senior Secondary examinations from Higher secondary school Imamsahib. He completed his BA from a college in Chandigarh.

Career as a Journalist[edit]

Umer Rashid started his career in Journalism with Jammu based weekly Newspaper and within a year he joined Kashmir G Newspaper. In 2016 Umer Joined Srinagar based news wire Global News Service.


Incidents[edit]

On 26 May 2020 Umer Rashid and his colleague was beaten by police near Newa area of South Kashmir's Pulwama when they were returning from their Srinagar office[4] the move was widely condemned by journalists and civil society members [5]
