John Milko
John "Bud" Milko (1921–2015) was born in Philadelphia. He joined the Marines to fight in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for a brave act. When his sergeant was shot by Japanese enemies, Milko protected his unit by engaging the enemy. Milko, alone, confronted five Japanese enemies and, despite being seriously wounded by a Japanese grenade, killed all five. He survived. Milko was also awarded the Silver Star.
