John Arthur Nunes is a Lutheran theologian, author, and academic administrator. He served as President of Conocrdia College New York from 2015, until its closing in 2021. Born in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Nunes grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and has lived in the U.S. since 1981.[1]

Biography[edit]

From 2007 to 2013, Nunes was President and Chief Executive Officer of Lutheran World Relief, an non-profit organization working to end poverty and injustice worldwide.[2]

From 2013 to 2015 he served as Emil and Elfriede Jochum Chair at Valparaiso University.[3]

He has also served as Director for Church Resource Development at Concordia Publishing House, a research fellow for the Acton Institute, a staff associate for urban ministry research at Wheat Ridge Ministries, and a professor of theology at Concordia University Chicago.[4][5]

Education[edit]

Nunes earned a B.A. from Concordia University Ann Arbor; a Master of Divinity from Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Catharines. Ontario, Canada; and a Ph.D. from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.[6]
