John O'Hara an English musician and conductor. He is a member of English progressive rock band Jethro Tull, as well as Ian Anderson's solo band.
Biography[edit]
John O'Hara was born in Liverpool. His father was a member of the British band Candlewick Green.
While at school he became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and then graduated from the Royal Northern College of Music.
John was Composer/Musical Director in residence at Bristol Old Vic for a decade. He then joined Ian Anderson for his orchestral and solo tours. After joining Jethro Tull he also performed in the Martin Barre Band.
John has been commissioned by Welsh National Opera, Three Choirs Festival and Gloucester Cathedral for choral and stage works. During this time he also composed for TV drama and documentaries and co-adapted of Pete Townshend’s Quadrophenia for stage.
O'Hara has composed three operas for the Welsh National Opera. He is an associate lecturer in music at Bristol University, Bath Spa University, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
In 2012 he played on Ian Anderson Thick as a Brick 2 (2012), the sequel to Jethro Tull's historical album Thick as a Brick (1972) and in 2014 he played on Ian Anderson's sixth solo album, Homo Erraticus.
