John R. Holmes

John R. Holmes (died 1892) was an African American politician from the US state of Virginia and a candidate for state senator in 1892. Holmes, the only black candidate in the election, was shot and killed in Virginia's Charlotte County by a white man in what is considered an "act of intimidation" against African American candidates.[1]
