John Weisbarth (born May 8, 1976) is an American TV host, best known for co-hosting the 2014-launched fyi channel reality show Tiny House Nation with fellow tiny-house movement advocate Zack Giffin, where the two design or help creatively troubleshoot, re-design, and get the little projects featured on the show finished.[1][2] In 2015 Weisbarth narrated another fyi show related to tiny homes called Tiny House World.[3][4][5] In a 2017 interview, Weisbarth said that he himself lives with his wife and 4-year-old child in a 1,300 square foot tiny home.[6] He and Giffin currently broadcast the Operation Tiny Home podcast.
Early life
Weisbarth was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but grew up in Coronado, California, the son of a handyman. At age 12 he starred in a film called The Treasure, released only on video. After graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a major in communication and a minor in sports management, Weisbarth continued working for his father's home maintenance business for a while before entering California's local television as a host and producer.[3][4][7][8][9]
Career
After graduating from college and a stint in his father's business, Weisbarth entered local California television as a sportscaster and, later, as a shows producer, which work earned him seven regional Emmy Awards in total. In 2014 he got his major break when he was hired by fyi to co-host Tiny House Nation with carpenter and tiny-house movement advocate Zack Giffin.[3][5] He continued to co-host the show in 2019 when it moved to fyi's parent network, A&E. The show also started airing on Netflix in August 2019.[10]
In 2015, Weisbarth was assigned to host Tiny House World, also on fyi.[5] He, along with Giffin, also became a part of Zillow's Speaker Series.[11]
Perspective on the tiny house movement
In an interview, Weisbarth said that the movement started as a part of the environmentalist movement but later evolved to include economic reasons.[12]
Personal life
Weisbarth lives in San Diego, California with his wife Megan and their son Jake. He is an avid surfer and soccer player.[3] During the COVID-19 pandemic, he launched a YouTube show titled Covid Cocktails with John Weisbarth.[8]
