Johnny Gone Down is a second novel written by Karan Bajaj and published in 2010 by HarperCollins.[1][2] The plot opens with the protagonist Nikhil Arya travelling to India. The book charters his journey through life-changing events as his misadventures take him across the globe, from his graduation at MIT, he makes his way to being held as a hostage and tortured in Cambodia, to a Buddhist monk in Thailand, to become the right hand man of a Brazilian drug lord to finally making his way back to his homeland.[3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
Adaptations[edit]
In 2017, Ronnie Screwvala and Ashi Dua were signed on as co-producers for the screen adaptation of Johnny Gone Down.[10]
Reception[edit]
Although some literary critics noted "too fast narrative of unfolding events and awkward climax",[11][6] the book generally received positive reviews.>[12][13][1] Harimohan Paruvu, a literary critic, noted: "It's fast and easy to read. Karan is obviously well travelled, can write and thinks up a nice story as well. I liked the general idea. I only wish that Nikhil Arya was a little less perfect at everything including screwing up things - and instead was a bit more likeable and identifiable." [11] According to Aditi Dharmadhikari: "There isn’t anything too flamboyant or beautiful or even noticeable about Karan Bajaj’s writing style but this is one author who knows how to tell a good story without making it seem stunted or disjointed. The emotional journey that Nick goes through is told in a very credible way without being over the top. This, in itself, is a feat considering that the protagonist lives a total of seven lives, all in very different capacities without losing his mind."[14]
